Big Brothers Big Sisters provides adult volunteer mentors to some of Canada's most at-risk children and youth. Through the careful screening, training, and placement of mentors with their "Little Brothers" or "Little Sisters", a long-term relationship built on trust is established. Children develop vital communication and socialization skills, and their self-esteem and self-confidence increases dramatically! The children we serve are:
- 48% less likely to have behavior problems in school
- 43% less likely to have conduct problems in school
- 34% less likely to allow themselves to be victimized or bullied by peers
- Twice as likely to have high levels of school bonding and commitment
- Twice as likely to have high academic achievement
- Two and a half times more likely to participate in extra-curricular school activities
In 2013, a study performed by the Boston Consulting Group concluded that the Social Return on Investment is between $18 and $23 of clear economic benefit for every $1 invested in our traditional mentoring program!
